On
a cold December 27th in 1832, in the small Northern
Ohio village of Kirtland, the Prophet Joseph Smith
received the command to "Establish a house, even
a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of
faith... A house of learning, a house of glory, a
house of God." (D&C 88:119)
"The
building of the Kirtland Temple commenced in June,
1833, under the immediate direction of the Almighty,
through his servant, Joseph Smith. This was the first
instance, for the lapse of many centuries, of God
having given a pattern from the heavens, and manifested
by direct revelation how the edifice should be constructed,
in order that he He might accept and acknowledge it
as His own. This knowledge inspired the saints to
almost superhuman efforts." (WoM p.5)
Take
an inspirational journey of the events and stories
surrounding the construction and dedication of this
inspired edifice.
